vintage merc to be featured at waconia mn show this weekend

Just announced, a 1975 Mercury Sno Pro PDC Racer snowmobile that has been stored in secret for over 20 years at Mercury Marine will be set out for all to see at the Waconia, MN Antique and Vintage Snowmobile Show this weekend, February 3-4, 2001.
The snowmobile is the only one of its kind left in existence- Mercury crushed the remaining sleds to avoid its technology secrets from leaking out. In fact, until recently, very few people knew of this sled's existence. When approached about items to display at this year's event much to the delight of the event organizers, Mercury Marine produced the sled. Doug Hayes, driver of this sled and former Mercury employee, will also be at the show to chat about his experiences.
Hayes is also the former announcer at Eagle River who now lives in Crandon, Wisconsin and runs a snowmobile business there.
The featured sled at this year's show is the Mercury. Over 350 sleds have been preregistered, with about 100 more expected to register over the weekend.
On Saturday, there will be a swap starting at 9am, at Noon the vintage racing on Lake Waconia will begin. Saturday evening there is a hospitality room at the Waconia Super 8 for those interested in swapping stories. Sunday is the vintage show at noon with awards presentations beginning at 3pm.
The event will be held at the Waconia Ballroom and a park adjacent to the ballroom on the south side of Lake Waconia. Waconia, MN is located on Highway 5, about 45 miles west of St. Paul, MN.
Last year's event attracted 2500-3000 vintage and antique snowmobile enthusiasts.
