New sled sales rebounded last season to 163,753 worldwide, with Canadian sales jumping 10%, while U.S. sales were relatively flat.
The figures, compiled by the International Snowmobile Manufacturers Association (ISMA), show total estimated sales up 2% from 2007, the first rise since 2001. Roughly 3,400 more sleds were sold in 2008 than the previous year.
U.S. sales were nearly identical to the prior year at 79,552, but Canadian sales jumped to 50,556, up from 45,477 sold in 2007. Dealers across North America have reported selling out of much of their non-currents and lowering their inventories significantly.
ISMA also said it expects final sales from Russia, Sweden and Norway to be up for the season, while Finland sales were hurt by lack of snow. The trade group said it expects final figures from Europe shortly.
