The United States Army has ordered more ATVs from Polaris, according to the company and local news reports. The military has a specific version of the Sportsman 700, known as the MV or Military Vehicle.

According to Polaris, the MV has added rack capacity, machine gun mounts, stretcher mounts, bead locks on its run-flat tires and winches on both ends. In addition, the Sportsman 700 MV features infrared headlights to operate in the dark with night vision equipment.

Polaris reps noted that the MV is beefed up to withstand being airdropped from low-flying cargo planes. Each unit also has dual fuel tanks for extended range.

The quantities were not available, but reps noted that they are in the hundreds, and can be built on the line within a couple of days.
The Sportsman 700 made its first appearance in Afghanistan last year, as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. The new MV configuration will be field tested at domestic US military installations before shipping out.
