These are such wide and rider-friendly trails you can make good time, so don't be scared off by the distances between towns or stops.
We found The Buckhorn was a welcome lunch stop with a varied menu and comfortable digs, including a huge wall of coat hooks for gear and a big shelf for helmets adjacent to the bar.
If you're heading west after riding through Munising, you might consider a stop at Foggy's just across the highway from the casino in Christmas. Good ribs and steaks there for a dinner to reward yourself after a long day on the trail.
Naturally there's plenty of gas available around Munising, but if you're heading south or east you can find some in Shingleton or at the bottom of Indian Lake just as Trail 7 heads back north. There's also gas (and lodging) at The Buckhorn.
Heading further west? You can easily fuel up your sleigh in Christmas.
Another good choice for a more scenic ride is to head east on 8 until you get to Trail 422 (Miner's Castle) shortly before Shingleton. Head north and you'll wind your way to Lake Superior's rocky shore for some exciting views.
All told this is a delicious area for wide-open riding and logging a lot of miles in a day before wrapping it up with a good meal and some tale swapping at night.
