As part of its 9th annual conference, Tread Lightly! signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the United States National Park Service. According to Tread Lightly! announcement, the responsible use advocacy group now enjoys the support of the majority of federal resource management agencies.

"Tread Lightly! acts as a strong educational force for its federal partners by encouraging the minimization of environmental impacts, while still allowing for responsible recreational use in designated areas," said the group's executive director, Lori Davis. "Statistics show that from 1988 to 1998, visitor use in National Parks increased more than 14 percent. Tread Lightly! is honored to work closely with the National Park Service to communicate a responsible outdoor ethics message."

Tread Lightly! is a non-profit organization that is an ethical and educational force among outdoor enthusiasts and the industries that serve them. It carries out programs designed to instill a proactive, low-impact message among enthusiasts, manufacturers, advertising agencies, the media and children of all ages.
