tread lightly held perceptions conference

Tread Lightly! held its tenth annual conference, held last week in Durango, Colorado, about exploring the evolving perceptions of recreational use.
The "Perceptions" conference was a valuable educational forum which helped attendees understand ways responsible education of outdoor recreation can reduce conflict among recreationists, curb irresponsible outdoor advertising and lessen the need for closures of recreational resources.
Attendees from the sport utility vehicle, outdoor equipment and aftermarket industry were joined by Tread Lightly! individual members, federal and state government representatives and local dignitaries. This group represents the full spectrum of outdoor enthusiasts who are committed to the same goal- to conserve the outdoors through education and responsible use. Those in attendance went to an Excellence in Advertising forum, round table discussions, seminars and goal-setting sessions.
In addition, representatives from the USDI National Park Service and Fish & Wildlife Service were on hand to sign a new Memorandum of Understanding with Tread Lightly! that reflects their partnership and collaboration of furthering responsible recreation on lands and water in national parks and wildlife refuges where such recreation is permitted.
