May 9, 2005- - A lawsuit was won today by access groups when a US District court ruled that more than 2,000 miles of recreational roads and trails will remain open in the Eldorado National Forest near Sacramento, Calif.
Senior U.S. District Judge Lawrence K. Karlton issued a tentative ruling today asking the Forest Service to write an order formally allowing vehicular travel on 2,245 miles of recreational system roads and trails as a result of his findings in the Center for Sierra Nevada Conservation v. Berry case, no. CV-03-325.
In the case, the court was asked to close the entire National Forest to motorized users.
According to the BlueRibbon Coalition, the judge had previously issued a ruling that found the 1990 Travel Management Plan and 1999 Rock Creek Trail Plan didn't comply with the National Environmental Policy Act.
