World Snowmobile Association's (WSA) premier Snocross Worldwide Championship (SWC) international tour will showcase its stars who will battle for the championship in two of the most popular venues on the circuit with an extended swing to eastern North America.
The Yamaha Eastern National takes place February 9-10, 2002, at Vernon Downs Horse Racing Track in Vernon, New York. The facility boasts indoor grandstands, a large vendor expo, and is conveniently located between Syracuse and Utica on the New York Thruway at exit 33. For ticket and lodging information, please contact Rock Maple Racing, the presenting sanctioning body, at 802-368-2747.
The Rock Maple circuit has produced two star snocrossers in Vermont natives TJ Gulla (now with Arctic Cat) and former ESPN Winter X-Games Gold Medallist Chris Vincent, who returned to the brand of some of his greatest early successes, Yamaha.
Both racers will have to deal with the likes of phenomenal defending Pro Open class champion, Arctic Cat's Tucker Hibbert, and reigning Winter X Gold Medallist Blair Morgan, who recently made a major switch, signing with Ski-Doo.
The following weekend has the snocross circuit traveling to the legendary Grand Prix de Valcourt, one of Canada's grandest snowmobile racing events, the weekend of February 16-17, 2002. The world's best snocross riders are to compete in the center of the famed Circuit Yvon Duhamel oval located just east of Montreal in Valcourt, Quebec, and world headquarters of Ski-Doo parent Bombardier, Inc.
The racing will be held in conjunction with the ice oval-racing program, with snocross racing occurring during oval grooming breaks and oval action taking place while the snocross track is maintained.
The snocross classes for this event will be Pro Open, Pro Stock, Semi-Pro Open and Semi-Pro Stock. There will be snocross action on Friday with the Grand Prix Pro-Am Open Dash for Cash, featuring a minimum $4000 US race purse. Top National level Pro and Semi pro pilots will be able to sign up for this event onsite, and the entry fee will be $50 US per driver.
