Each year at the International Snowmobile Congress, a groomer operator is chosen from each of the three chapters of the International Snowmobile Council and honored by Arctic Cat as the "Groomer Operator of the Year." To carry this program one step further, the International Snowmobile Hall of Fame with the help of Artic Cat developed the International Groomer Operator of the Year Award to give credit to one of these groomer operators.

This year the selection committee has chosen Joe Tonso from Craig, Colorado to receive the honor. Tonso is a charter member of the Northwest Colorado Snowmobile Club and has served as Grooming Chairman since 1988. He was appointed Grooming Chairman of the Colorado Snowmobile Association in 1990, and continues that position today.

As chairman of the grooming program, Tonso developed a funding allocation formula that has been adopted by the state and the clubs. He also established a training program for groomer operators that teaches operational techniques and maintenance of equipment.

Tonso will be honored at the International Snowmobile Hall of Fame Induction weekend ceremonies on Feb. 27-28. For more information about the weekend events or to RSVP for the Saturday evening ceremony, call 218/245-1725 or e-mail admin@ishof.com .
