Executive Director of the American Council of Snowmobile Associations (ACSA), Christine Jourdain, keeps a close watch on the legislature and government actions and let us know of these recent developments in the world of snowmobiling:
Legislation was recently introduced by a Representative from New Jersey which would restrict the use of snowmobiles in the National Park Service.
Legislation was recently introduced by a couple of Congressmen from snow states what would restrict the use of motorized automobiles in the National Parks. Basically the same language banning snowmobiles- only replace the word snowmobiles with automobiles.
It appears that the Bush administration will give the Chief of the Forest Service more authority than past administrations. It is expected that the Under Secretary will play a far more restricted role than in the past- which means the Chief, Dale Bosworth, will be expected to run the Forest Service.
Sometime in the next two weeks an announcement is expected to be made by either President Bush or Secretary Veneman regarding the roadless area policy. It appears there will be changes- to what degree and how they may impact snowmobiling- is unknown right now.
The 33rd International Snowmobile Congress dates set The 33rd Congress will meet June 5-9, 2001 in Itasca, Illinois. International Snowmobile Congress full registration is $125 until May 1 and increases to $140 after May 1. For more information, contact Jane Austin 815/795-2021or email iasc@uti.com.
