Radar TestingOur radar gun verified what our brains and our butts suspected- the hybrid would be a quick accelerator, but would fall off a little on the big end. An MX Z 800 is setup at 26/43. A Summit 800 comes with a 19/43 gear pair; so does the '01-1/2 Renegade. The 2002 Renegade falls into line between the two with a 21/43 ratio, giving it a little advantage at the mid-point, while keeping a good top end. The sled's 136-inch track with 1.25-inch lugs also plays into the sled's acceleration character. It gave us awesome hookup, but the added weight and surface friction took their toll.
As it turned out, our test strip only measured about 950 feet before the sleds dropped out of range, or spraying slush blocked the beam. We went back and pulled some older radar runs out and set all the stats to the same 950-foot statistic for comparison. We tested the Summit 800 out in Alpine, Wyoming last January. The 800 XC SP and MX Z 800 X runs were made in February at Area 330. Enjoy!
