The 18th Annual Tesoro Iron Dog 2000 commences on February 18th. The 2000-mile race from Wasilla to Nome to Fairbanks, Alaska is run by teams of two on two sleds. Thirty-one pro class and 25 trail class riders, a total of 87 participants have entered this year's race. Out of 31 teams, there are six rookie teams and nine additional teams that have only one experienced Iron Dog racer.
The oldest racer this year is Jack Bronner at age 61. The youngest competitor is Nathan Lew, only 20.
The race begins on Sunday, February 18, the green flag drops at 11am at Big Lake's Klondike Inn Resort in Wasilla, Alaska. Teams will depart in one-minute intervals.
