Nearly 500 entry packets were mailed out to those who are hoping to get a slot to race in the 18th Annual Tesoro Iron Dog 2000 cross country race in Alaska. Due to a limit set by Iron Dog's board of directors there are only 110 slots to be filled. 45 Pro Class teams will race for prize money while 20 Trail Class participants will go on the ride of a lifetime. Applications will be accepted from June 2nd through August 15th, 2000 at 4:59 p.m. If there are more applications received than can be accommodated on the trail, a lottery drawing will take place for both classes at 5:00 p.m. on August 15th.
Entry fees are $3,460.00 per Pro Class team and $1,130.00 per individual in the Trail Class. Entry fees include, fuel, oil, isopropyl and anti-freeze at each of the 23 checkpoints on the Iron Dog trail.
Race Day is Sunday, February 18, 2001. This Alaskan race will begin at Wasilla and run to Nome and finish in Fairbanks. Trail Class will follow the Pro Class from Wasilla and head to Nome OR veer off the trail at Ruby and head to Fairbanks. Trail Class riders can eliminate the always-unpredictable coastal weather and travel the river from Ruby to Fairbanks. This is a whole new trail option for some of the Trail Class riders that have participated in the past.
To ensure that the "Big Four" manufacturers continue to participate with the best racers possible, Iron Dog has designated two slots to each manufacturer, if these teams get their paperwork in on time, they will not have to participate in the lottery. The Big Four are required to identify their teams before July 16, 2000.
Tesoro Iron Dog 2000 formerly known, as the Iron Dog Gold Rush Classic is still the world's longest snowmobile race! Tesoro Alaska Company a 30-year veteran in Alaska oil fields, is committed to sponsoring the race that runs from Wasilla to Nome to Fairbanks. The Tesoro Iron Dog 2000.
