super sled shootout expands

Amsnow
American Snowmobiler's Super Sled Shoot-Out II, which will run Oct. 22 in Brainerd, Minn., is expanding.

In addition to modified sleds ripping down the track at 150+ mph, this year's Shoot-Out at Brainerd International Raceway will include a full-scale swap meet and large indoor vintage sled display.

AmSnow expects a full field of modified sleds from across the U.S. and Canada competing in the Super Sled event that culminates the day's activities. Last year Jim Moore of the Just for Kicks race team from Casper, Wyo., won the Super Sled Shoot-Out by edging Ron Bray of Anoka, Minn. Jim posted a quarter-mile time of 8.837 at 148.79 mph on a 2000 Ski-Doo Mach Z.

Those are better times than exotic cars, like Ferrari or Porsche!

But there's also a turbo category and bracket racing for racers who want to show what they and their sleds can do on BIR's 1/4-mile asphalt track with professional timing and scoring.

Adding to the fun and excitement will be a swap meet funded by the Pequot Brush Pilots snowmobile club. The swap meet will be on the BIR grounds adjacent to the professional NHRA drag strip venue.

The Antique Snowmobile Club of America also will present a collection of antique and vintage sleds in a heated building next to the track for folks wanting to stretch their legs or educate the kids on snowmobling's history. Area dealers will also be displaying all of the new 2006 models, and aftermarket companies will show their wares in booths and displays.

AmSnow's Super Sled Shoot-Out emphasizes modified sleds and the aftermarket products that help improve sled performance.

Admission is $10 and free for those 12 and younger, when accompanied by an adult. Look for a $2 off coupon inside AmSnow's Buyers Guide, which goes on sale Aug. 16, or pick one up at the AmSnow booth at Haydays in Lino Lakes, Minn. Sept. 10-11.

Action starts at 11 a.m. on race day and awards are presented after the final run-off! The Shoot-Out's rain date is Sunday Oct. 23.
