I'll take another order of Boondockers, please. These longer tracked sleds are designed to offer a slightly less expensive, smaller horsepower, extended track sled that can power through deep off-trail lake-effect snows in the Midwest, soak up monster moguls on the trail and excite mountain riders through peaks and valleys.
Entries from all major manufacturers in this smaller cc extended track class of off-trail tamers made for a blazing showdown at this year's test session in Utah. This segment just keeps getting better and the boondocker/crossover market has two more 120-horsepower options this year. The new kids in '06 are the Polaris Switchback 600 and the Arctic Cat Crossfire 600.
Ski-Doo, already a veteran in this class, added an X spring option package to its Renegade 600 to entice consumers to buy the machines early. Also in the 120-hp class is the 4-stroke Yamaha Rage that's powered by the Genesis 120. Still solid for '06, the Rage shed pounds and picked up performance.
We thoroughly enjoyed this group of machines and they're prime choices for performance in all conditions. You get all the excitement without the price tag. What could be better?
