Skegs
Once the track has been studded, we'll likely have trouble in the turnswithout also changing the skegs on the skis. A general rule of thumb tofollow is 4 to 6 inches of carbide on sleds with 144 or fewer studs, 8 to10 inches of carbide for sleds with more than 144 studs. This is also variabledepending on the particular terrain and the riding style of the driver.
There is no real mathematical formula for determining the best carbidesize for a sled. Use the basic rule of thumb we just offered in combinationwith varying ski pressure to maximize your cornering agility.
We have set up an Indy 600 XC for cross country, high performance riding. There would be differences in setups if we had a different sled or wereplanning on doing different kinds of riding. Ice racing would use 30 degreesteel picks, drag racing would use flat-sided chisel studs, and powder ridingwould use a deep lug track. If you're not sure how to set your sled up,we recommend consulting your local dealer for help.
