Spitsbergen EquipmentAs a snowmobile- or any other kind of tourist you are not welcome to this vulnerable winterland without common sense. For everybody's sake there are rules to follow and ignoring these rules, some not even written, will jeopardize your own and others' safety. The most dangerous threat is not the 5000 polar bears, but the weather and the beautiful landscape. Every year people disappear and search patrols have to be sent out, no matter how strong the weather might be. And by the way, last time a tourist got killed by a bear was in 1997. Just a couple of miles outside the city. Be aware! I'm not trying to scare you away from this treasure island, but I am serious!
