snowmobiles banned to protect idaho caribou

Amsnow
In an effort to save the last mountain caribou herd in the contiguous 48 states, around 470 square miles of national forest in northern Idaho have been declared off-limits to snowmobiles. The caribou recovery zone is in the Idaho Panhandle National Forests. There are roughly 3 dozen animals left. The ban will hold until a winter recreation strategy is developed.
