Mountain sledsThe Canadian crew put its Summit lineup on a weight-loss program to improve performance for 2006.
The Adrenaline and Highmark Summits shed 15 pounds and X-package spring-only models lost 20. Doo claims Boondockers will feel the difference as Doo's mountain mashers come within 10 pounds of Cat's M series.
The five Ski-Doo packages started cutting weight right with the skis. Newly designed Pilot 6.9 skis are two pounds lighter than previous skis.
Plus the X-package sleds add a clear fuel tank to eliminate the fuel gauge and also feature adjustable riser block handlebars and a more sculpted seat from the 440 racer. Other standard features are high performance brakes with steel-braided brake lines and RER electronic reverse.
In addition, X sleds feature high-end aluminum-bodied HPG take-apart shocks. Up front you'll find a link-type sway bar to aid in cornering.
Engine choices remain superb. The Highmark X uses the 165-horse 2-TEC 1000 SDI motor that boasts good fuel mileage and snappy throttle response. If you want a carbed engine, there's the 800 H.O. with PowerTEK.
These sleds spin 16-inch PowderMax tracks to give them more float and lift. You can choose from tracks ranging from 144 to 162 inches, including a new 151 on the Highmark.
