skidoo shows 2006 race sled

Ski-Doo has whittled five more pounds from its successful MX Zx 440 snocross sled for the 2006 season.

Ski-Doo showed the new sled at Haydays, in Lino Lakes, Minn., this past weekend. Company officials said changes to the sled were made to improve the sled's hole shot ability, cut weight, and increase traction and overall durability.

Steve Cowing, the company's media relations and competition manager, said a new electronic control module (ECM) and TM-34 carbs with ECM-controlled power jet will boost performance along with several other changes.

Plus he noted that a lighter weight TEAM driven pulley and Pilot 5.7 dual-runner skis with a single carbide cut weight on the sled

Giving the sled more traction is a new 1.75-inch studded track with a new pitch to put a bigger footprint on the snow.

The company also said it will offer a 550X Racing Kit upgrade package to help entry-level racers rev up their fan sleds. The package includes upgraded shocks, clutching and stronger rear suspension wheels and sells for $1,479US/$1,749CA via dealers.

The kit's shocks will be C-36 Racing-Clicker aluminum take-apart racing shocks on the rear suspension. These are the same as used on the 440 racing sled. Plus there will be HPG aluminum take-apart piggy-back shocks in front.

Additionally Ski-Doo announced a sponsorship with Dodge, saying the two brands tie together well because both feature top-rated engines, the Rotax and Hemi respectively. Plus both offer class-leading design.

More info will be coming in the December issue.
