skidoo recalls some mach z summit models

March 17, 2005 - - AmSnow has learned that on Feb. 9 the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Bombardier Recreational Products posted a product safety recall on a limited number of 2005 Mach Z, Summit Highmark and Highmark X package sleds that came without the electric starter.
According to the commission, about 1,455 units were recalled due to an "inappropriate clutch ring gear installed on some units. This may cause ring gear fragmentation at high speeds and debris could act as projectiles. A projectile could cause serious injury or death."
Ski-Doo told AmSnow that one of its suppliers mistakenly affixed rings made for the firm's 800cc machines on these new 1000cc machines. Not all Mach Z, Summit Highmark and Highmark X models are affected.
There have been no accidents or injuries reported and Ski-Doo says repairing the problem is a quick fix that your dealer will perform at no charge, if your sled is one of those affected.
Model numbers affected are: AB5A, CA5A, CA5B, CD5A, CD5B, CD5C.
