Ski-Doo has voluntarily recalled 1500 sleds. The sleds named in the recall include 2009 and 2010 Skandic SWT V-800 models as well as 2010 GSX 1200, GTX 1200, MXZ 1200 and Renegade 1200 models. The recall is due to a potential drive pulley hazard, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
According to USPSC's website, the drive pulley bolts on the snowmobiles can break due to oil contamination during the assembly process. This can cause debris to come off the sled and act as projectiles, posing a laceration hazard to riders or bystanders.
The sleds were sold at Ski-Doo dealerships nationwide from July 2008 through February 2010 for between $8,000 and $9,000. There have been three reports of projectiles flying off of the snowmobiles, and one report of a minor foot injury.
Riders should immediately stop using their snowmobile and contact their local Ski-Doo dealer to check the serial number and possibly schedule a free repair. All known owners of the recalled snowmobiles have been directly notified about this recall by mail. The model name and number of each snowmobile is displayed on the engine compartment and the serial number is on the right side of the vehicle on the tunnel below the seat.
