Someone asked me this year, do I prefer, air shocks or the adjustable shock, spring and suspension settings of the rMotion? After spending a full season with the Quick Adjust system I’ve decided I prefer this system over having to use an air pump and first unload an air shock in order to correctly put air in.
One quick rant though, the capability of the KYB Pro 40 R shocks are pretty much comparable to any super high-end shock, for comparison sake lets say the FOX Evols. Both are overkill for 99.99% of the trail riders out there. Now, if you are in that very top .01% that are jumping 60-foot triples, or professional cross-country or snocross racing, then I can see opting for Evols.
Likewise, few, if any, recreational riders will ever use the KYB Pro 40 R shocks to their fullest potential. The same could be said for any high-performance suspension from any OEM, really.
We made a couple additions that we would suggest for any aggressive trail rider. We used a full compliment of Stud Boy 1.375-inch studs down the center, but did not to stud the track’s direct center as our dealer noticed the backers could interfere with the top of the center shock. We used single studs with new Super-Lite Pro backers.
In addition we added a handlebar air deflector extension kit to the handguards. These semi-rigid deflectors made of softshell material kept our hands warmer on cold days and did not impede aggressive cornering nor did they collapse in the wind on top end. The MXZ tunnel bag also is handy on any Ski-Doo sled.
