No lie, I actually heard a guy say this at the Toronto Snowmobile Show this year! Did he think AmSnow was anti-Canadian? I had to laugh as my wife is Canadian and each year I ride numerous places throughout Canada. We even got married there and we love our Canadian friends and family! AmSnow often includes travel stories, aftermarket talk, events, and more from the Great White Norte... and that is how it should be considering that in the winter the snow is up to your ears in much of Canada! Anyway, this year I was having a ‘Blue’ with a Canadian friend talking about differences in snowmobile lingo between us. So, we wrote down our top 5 funny Canadian snowmobile sayings and top 5 funny American snowmobile sayings. Here goes…

Canadian Sled Sayings

SKI-DOO/SKI-DOOING
Definition – Term references any kind of snowmobile or riding.
Sentence – Did you save up enough loonies to buy that Arctic Cat Ski-Doo?
CAMP
Definition – Private place to play, out of the city.
Sentence – We are going to the cabin at the camp!
DECALS
Definition – Means graphics or stickers but said like ‘deck-als’.
Sentence – The new Leafs decals on your snowmachine should give them good luck this year.
BUSH
Definition – Woods, or anywhere moose live.
Sentence – I was 100 kilometers back in the bush when I slipped on the ice and bumped my arse.
GIVEN R’
Definition – Going fast.
Sentence – Man, we were given r’ across that lake!

American Sled Sayings
UP NORTH
Definition – Anywhere with more snow and trees than where you live. Notoriously unspecific.
Sentence – This weekend we’re packing up the kids and heading up north.
PUCKERBRUSH
Definition – The small bushes, trees and deeper snow to the side of the trail… often in a corner.
Sentence – I missed my turn and got a little into the puckerbrush.
BRAAAP
Definition – The sound every sled, of any make, engine, or year makes.
Sentence – I love a good morning BRAAAP!
TO THE BARS
Definition – Wide open.
In a Sentence – I had my 1978 Enticer to the bars and saw 62 mph!
IN THE RHUBARB
Definition – Similar to Puckerbrush, but farther off-trail.
Sentence – I swerved to avoid that deer, got off-trail, and had to pick back through the rhubarb.
