Secretary of the Interior Gale Norton today announced the appointment of Michael "Mick" Holm as superintendent of Glacier National Park in Montana.
Michael Holm, a native of Montana, is currently superintendent of Carlsbad Caverns National Park where he is responsible for all aspects of management of the 46,766-acre park, a staff of 115 and an annual operating budget of more than $5 million. Holm will bring 27 years of park experience to his new position at Glacier National Park. He will assume his new responsibilities in August, replacing Suzanne Lewis, who earlier this year was named superintendent at Yellowstone National Park.
Holm began his career with the NPS in 1975, as an interpreter at Grant-Kohrs Ranch National Historic Site in Montana and later worked as a museum aid at the park. Holm has since served as park ranger historian at Knife River Indian Villages National Historic Site in North Dakota, district interpreter at Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area in Wyoming, superintendent at Knife River, and acting superintendent and deputy superintendent at Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky.
Holm holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Montana and has received numerous distinguished awards from the Department of the Interior and NPS. Holm and his wife, the former Patti Robinson, have two sons, Nathan and Eric.
