savage on sleds performance
Amsnow
We are not all so different us snowmobilers. We like speed, we like excitement, we like our sleds to be at least a tenth of a second quicker than our buddy’s when we hustle it across a lake. In a word, we like Performance, and no, that capital P is NOT a mistake!
Ah, but what does performance mean to you? It might not just be speed, or a faster time in a straight-up drag race across an icy lake. That’s a big part if you’re into the speed and racing end of snowmobiling.
But what if you’re a trail rider who’s out for some fun with his or her friends or family? What if you’re a newbie and just starting in the sport? What if current finances don’t allow you to invest heavily into a new sled, or add costly mods to your current snowmobile?
Well, for all of you folks we have some advice in this, our Performance and Tune-up issue.
Tech Editor Olav Aaen talks about 4-stroke clutching in his monthly Tech Notes column, and in Tech Notes Xtra he tells how he has souped up our aging Polaris Edge project sled. Along that line, Canadian contributor Bob Island gives us Part 1 of how to Revive a REV. Not all repairs and upgrades are expensive, many are quite simple.
Senior Editor Mark Boncher reviews CVTech’s Powerbloc primary clutch to give your sled more pop. We also add in a bevy of your performance questions that AmSnow A-Team of experts answers in our regular Ask the Experts column.
While talking performance, be sure to read our exclusive interview with record-setting long-jumper Levi LeVallee, a certifiable character that points the spotlight on snowmobilers and the sport every time he makes a jump.
We haven’t forgotten you riders that are thinking about where to vacation or travel for your snowmobiling getaway this year. There’s a 16-page pullout section full of travel destinations and stories about great places to ride.
Enjoy! It won’t be long now until we see you out on the trails!
