The fact that you read this magazine tells me you want an independent voice and unbiased data before deciding which sled or equipment to buy.
That's what we believe and it's why we put American Snowmobiler in your hands six times each season. It's why we test our long-term sleds all winter, every day we can. The same goes for all our gear and accessories.
Honestly, it'd be a lot easier to run only the information and numbers the PR folks at the manufacturers and aftermarket shops give us. For instance, when a new sled is introduced, the media gets press kits telling us what the latest and greatest features are. We're told what horsepower to expect from each sled, and at least an estimate of gas mileage.
That's fine and as it should be. We appreciate the efforts the manufacturers, and all the industry folks we work with, put into informative product launches.
BUT, we know you want independently varified numbers and product reviews you can trust, that you can compare and be confident haven't been given a rubber stamp of approval with no investigation. I mean it's nice to compare a new 600 REV-XP and a F6, but if you're running one on a Monday and the other a week later in different snow conditions, well, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to tell you it'll behave differently. That's why we do both our Real World Shoot-Out testing and Long-Term Tests, so you get same-day tests AND season-long evaluations.
We have experts dyno the engines. Those are the numbers you regularly see in American Snowmobiler. We'll give you a manufacturer's estimate until we test a sled, but after that, we use our own independently verified figures. That's why you'll read that a TNT has 114 horses or an FST has 140.2 hp. We also personally test any product that gets our AmSnow Tested seal.
We radar clock each sled at our Shoot-Out and wet weigh them on our scales too. (You DO have fluids in yours don't you?) We want factual numbers you can use when it comes time to buy your next sled.
