Testing is currently going on at Michigan Tech University's Keweenaw Research Center for the SAE Clean Snowmobile Challenge, which kicked off Tuesday morning.

Out of the 14 entries this year, 9 have conventional engines modified to reduce emissions and noise, 4 are electric and 1 entry is a hybrid. Electric snowmobiles have zero emissions and are nearly silent. Could this be the future of snowmobiling?
