With the majority of snowmobile sales in the past few years centered on the 500cc and 600cc classes, it's no wonder that the aftermarket has been busy preparing a 700cc big bore kit. Trail riders who felt that a 600 provided adequate oomph are now ready to up the ante and go to a 700. The market is ripe for the picking.
The Hooper Racing 700 Big Bore kit is designed to fit on any 1997 or newer Arctic Cat 500cc or 600cc carbureted twin engine. "We put the Predator 700 into a ZL 500 for the Shoot-Out," said the sled's owner, Gary Bourque. "It's a really really fun sled on the trail. The softer suspension setup of the ZL combined with the 140hp of the Predator 700 is a blast. Comfort and power-- it's everything that's good about snowmobiling."
The Predator 700 kit consists of custom cast Predator cylinders, the head, pistons, rings and a set of twin tuned pipes. Also incorporated on our test sled was a set of V-Force reeds, a gutted airbox and 144 trail studs on the stock track.
Our tech inspectors informed us that the Predator 700 is a very trailable package. It was running on reformulated gas from a local station and had 139 pounds of cranking compression. The whole package weighed in at 519 pounds, with some fuel in the tank.
