Justin Tate and Iceland's Alex "Lexi" Karason have each earned a spot to compete in the snocross competition at the 2002 Winter X-Games- due to their finishes at races in Iceland.

Tate first made the trip to the WSA's International Snocross Championship race in Olafsfjardar, Iceland, a northern town located off the coast of the Arctic Ocean. Tate finished second in the final, overcoming a major engine failure in the process.

Karason suffered a cracked pelvis in a crash early on in the "Snocross Iceland" series, Iceland's National Snocross Championship series. He continued to race all season in substantial pain, and on a new and stock-engined sled against mod sleds. He claimed the Icelandic title despite his injury and sled troubles this year.
