Check out the first snow-filled spy photos of the new ¾-sized sleds that were recently released by Premier Recreational Products Corp. Owner Christopher Bell of Howell, Mich., started the company and it's definitely a family affair. His children are the main test riders, and his wife works for the company as well.
Premier is aiming its air-cooled 150cc and liquid-cooled 300cc 4-stroke Enforcer snowmobiles at the tweener, young adult, and novice market. There simply hasn't been a manufacturer of late that has satisfied the need for a solid value-driven snowmobile for youngsters and smaller novices to make the transition from a 120cc miniature sled to the full-sized sleds offered by the Big 4, he says.
Recently, Ski-Doo tried with its Freestyle sleds and Yamaha has too with its entry-level Phazer, but neither sled has been an overwhelming hit.
Bell hopes to nail the market with his new 280-300 lb. sleds that will come with electric start, reverse, heated grips, heated visor outlet, locking underseat storage, and a full gauge pod. If you remember Yamaha's former Sno-Sport from the early 90's, these sleds will remind you a lot of that machine, only with more options, more horsepower, and it appears they'll be much more functional for longer trail rides. Shocks are aluminum take-apart and UHMW skis are as good as the big-boy sleds. An upgraded shock/spring package is available as well and the 10-inch wide tracks come in a .90 lug height on the 150 and a 1.0-inch lug on the 300. A top speed for the 150 is close to 30 mph and the 300 should eclipse 40 mph. MPG numbers are optimistic with these 4-strokers and for this target market the 5.5 gallon tank should be plenty for several hours of riding.
As of presstime, Bell had not set pricing on his product lineup.
