polaris sends dealers stop sale notice for 900 fusions and 900 rmks

October 4, 2004- AmSnow has learned directly from Polaris that a Stop Sale Notice was recently issued for the new 900 Fusions and 900 RMKs due to a vendor driveshaft problem.
The drive-shaft on a number of the new sleds were found to be soft, or weak. This irregularity was due to a problem in the heat-treating process of the parts, Polaris said. The issue was confronted after several parts failed the manufacturing quality process at Polaris. This process tests and re-tests all parts that are put into Polaris snowmobiles.
In referencing the notice given to Polaris dealers, and also posted by a reputable Polaris dealer on our own AmSnow forums, the General Manager of snowmobile operations at Polaris said potential hazards of the part include "…drive shaft breakage and a subsequent loss of brakes. Also, some units may have an inadequate locking of the fuel clamps on the Pump Flange Assembly (PFA) and fuel filter."
The supplier of the driveshafts is a large auto supplier that has supplied several shafts for other lines of Polaris powersport products, according to Polaris.
Current efforts are underway to determine the number of parts affected and therefore how many delivered production models need altering.
Polaris says that safety is a main concern in any production process and has been at Polaris for many years. Seeing as "these potential issues could result in severe injury or death to the operator," Polaris said it is taking the issue very seriously and hopes to be able to rectify the problem quickly.
More information will be available here at AmSnow when it is available.
