Polaris owned the Pro Open podium at the season's first Super SnoCross Indoor Stadium Tour event as Levi LaVallee won the race and led a 1-2-3 Polaris sweep in the sport's most hotly contested class. DJ Eckstrom finished second and T.J. Gulla was third as the Team Polaris racers kept the sport's top racers from earning a spot on the winner's stand.
The Polaris Pro Open sweep came Saturday, January 31, as the indoor tour opened at the Metrodome in Minneapolis.
The evening's display of Polaris power gave Team Polaris outstanding momentum heading into the second half of the snocross racing season. It also gave the 21-year-old LaVallee his second major victory in seven days. Just one week earlier, LaVallee set the pace in the Polaris-dominated HillCross competition at the 2003 Winter X Games. He won the HillCross gold medal at Aspen, Colorado, and then on Saturday demonstrated his versatility and talent by winning the Pro Open title on the tight indoor snocross track at the Metrodome.
Team Polaris accomplished its Pro Open sweep against the sport's top racers, including multi-time champion Blair Morgan and X Games snocross winner Michael Island. Polaris racers earned four of the nine front-row starting spots for the Pro Open final and it was purely a Polaris battle for the win from the time the green flag fell.
LaVallee and Gulla (who took third place in the Pro Stock class at the indoor event) are teammates on the Polaris/TEAM Industries Race Team. Eckstrom races for the Polaris/Team Amsoil/Scheuring Speedsports team, where his teammate is Justin Tate, who also ran in the indoor Pro Open final.
Polaris racer Ross Martin took second in the Semi-Pro Open final at the indoor event, and Polaris racer Julie Thul finished second in the Pro Women class.
