Polaris previewed its new Indy Frontier 4-stroke snowmobile at its sled dealer show in Orlando, Florida. The new sled uses a snowmobile-engine designed to be a quieter and cleaner alternative for snowmobilers. Designed specifically for snowmobile use, Polaris snowmobile engineers built the engine to sit low in the EDGE chassis for enhanced handling characteristics. The new sled accommodates two riders and is designed for the rental sled market.
The new Frontier will be available to West Yellowstone snowmobile rental operators by December. Polaris will offer the new 4-stroker to consumers in the 2003 model year.
The 48-horsepower powerplant features closed-loop fuel injection and an engine block heater to facilitate cold weather starting. The engine was designed by Polaris and built at the Osceola (WI) engine facility.
Polaris joins Arctic Cat and Trail Roamer as the makers of four-stroke sleds.
