Chuck Decker of the Eagle River (Wisconsin) Derby Track notified us that his group plans to trademark the term "World Snowmobile Racing Hall of Fame" and construct a building on Derby grounds to support the endeavor.
"We believe that the history of racing in snowmobiling deserves and can support a dedicated museum. A 50x100 foot metal building is being constructed on derby grounds with completion scheduled before the 2003 Derby. The building will house the World Snowmobile Racing Hall of Fame," stated Decker.
Explaining that the existing Wisconsin-based Hall of Fame lost its space in St. Germain, Decker extended an offer to host the Snowmobile Hall of Fame's museum at the Derby track .
"In the past," Decker said, "we have offered to donate land to the present Hall of Fame, now we are offering both land and building. We know that there is significant agreement with industry… and fans that a World Snowmobile Racing Hall of Fame should be located in Eagle River."
In extending the offer, Decker noted that in addition to the fabled World Championship Derby each winter, the Derby track hosts the popular Reunion (a growing vintage snowmobile show) in September and a myriad list of events ranging from 4th of July fireworks to antique shows to charity fund raising events.
While making the offer to host the existing Hall of Fame's museum, Decker's group, 5-D Promotions, will establish and maintain a World Snowmobile Racing Hall of Fame on the Derby grounds.
