This weekend will be the official launch of the Snowmobile, All-terrain vehicle and Vessel Enforcement (SAVE) program by the Ontario Provincial Patrol.
The SAVE program was created to discourage the unsafe operation of recreational vehicles- and the three six-person teams will be on the lookout this weekend- patrolling road, off-road and waterways, looking for reckless or unsafe rv operation.
SAVE is costing the Ontario government $2 million (CAN), which will pay for the 18 ATVs, nine boats and 18 snowmobiles that will be used for the program.
Canada will be celebrating Canada Day with a long weekend- and most will have Monday off from work. It marked a good time to launch the SAVE program- when waterways and cabin areas will be full of recreationists.
