Reed help

Q: I just put in VForce 3 reeds in my Ski-Doo 550F and in doing so I had to cut off the ears on the intake. Was that OK? Would it be better to get a new intake without ears? The sled starts OK, but I have not had the chance to run it outside the yard. There is a little bogging in it, but I think that might be from old gas. The sled was my gift to myself for going to Iraq. – rev550f

A: First let us say thank you for serving your country … now that you’re back home it’s time to enjoy yourself! Cutting the stuffers off the intake boots is what needs to be done on a lot of the VF3 cages. Since the new reeds will pull a different air signal through the carburetor bore you may need to adjust the pilot jet size to compensate for the different air signal. If you are experiencing a slight bog in the off idle throttle positions you possibly need to richen the pilot circuit some. Use the air/fuel screws first and if that doesn’t give you the amount of adjustability you need, then you may need to install a larger pilot jet. Good luck with your new sled and enjoy the winter! - Dyna-Tek Performance
