In an announcement made yesterday, National Snowmobile Straightline Racing has announced that it will no longer be sanctioning any snowmobile events. Citing the economic and political strains, NSSR official Meg Greenhaw delivered news of the shutdown.

"It is with the deepest regret and sadness that I must announce to NSSR members that it is no longer economically feasible for NSSR to continue sanctioning any form of snowmobile racing," wrote Greenhaw on the NSSR website. "I appreciate the support, friendship and memories the teams have shared with myself and all of the NSSR Officials over the years."

The upcoming asphalt event at CBIR in Brainerd, Minnesota is becoming a self-managed event with the help of NSSR.

NSSR will be turning over the management of the NSSR Muscle Sled Shootout to CBIR. The points event to reach the NHRA Nationals will be held July 7, 8, 9th, 2000 at Colonel's Brainerd International Raceway during a bracket event. Greenhaw will be working with the NHRA to ensure a smooth transition to shift management of the event.

The Brainerd event will remain 800cc and the current rules for Prostock 800 as outlined in the NSSR rulebook. The method for gathering points and the actual three day scheduled points event is currently being formulated. The manufacturers have been notified and directed to communicate their contingency and support programs to Bob Van Houton.
