WE ARE NOT TALKING about billionaire status here, but we are talking about a resurgence of great straight-line drag excitement.
With the proliferation of big turbo sleds, exotic materials becoming more affordable, better testing equipment, and better sleds to begin with, the drag race scene has never been so fast!
The National Straightline Snowmobile Racing organization specializes in speed races and has four races planned, all with two 1,000-foot shaved ice tracks, with more than 2,500 feet of shaved shutdown area. Speeds are hitting nearly 180 mph!
The straightline series is directed by famous racer Ron Bray, his wife Stacy, and a top crew of tech personnel, volunteers and sled enthusiasts and it is ISR approved. There are more than 50 classes (ranging from kids, stock, mod, mod stock, vintage and more) and racers from around the U.S. and Canada converge on ice strips traditionally in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan (although other venues in other states have been cooperative as well.) A professional photocell timing system is used at all races.
The NSSR is the only World Record Series for Snowmobile Speed Runs with an ISR affiliation. If you like fun, fast, hair-frying speed sleds, this is the best place to find them in winter.
