Snowmobilers in Newfoundland this last season were blessed with massive amounts of snow. In fact, this year's snowfall resulted in clubs having difficulty keeping up with the grooming. It seemed that every time the trails were groomed, another storm would hit. Perhaps the two new groomers ordered by the Newfoundland/Labrador Snowmobile Federation (NLSF) will help to alleviate this problem next season.
In other news, the NLSF held its second annual Snow-Trek trans-provincial ride on March 9-11, 2001. The event, which was open to all NLSF members, was initiated to raise the profile of snowmobiling in the province, provide exposure to new riding areas, enhance the unity of the NLSF, and lastly, to help raise trail development funds. Participants were obligated to canvass for pledges with proceeds being split equally between the NLSF and individual's home club.
This year's ride involved club members meeting at pre-arranged points and proceeding as a group to the next club's meeting place with the end goal being the uniting of all participants in Deer Lake for a dinner and dance. Snow-Trek was a success and is expected to become a cornerstone of snowmobiling in the northern province.
