The newest snowmobile trail to be completed in South Dakota is the Northeast Trail. It connects the communities of Sisseton, Lake Traverse, Victor and Veblen. It's located in the northeast corner of the state.
The 99-mile trail passes through the Coteau des Prairies, a series of rolling hills dotted with woods and lakes. It also provides riders access to Minnesota and North Dakota's snowmobile trail systems.
Maps available online detail more than 1,400 miles of snowmobile trail found within the state. This includes the 350-mile Black Hills trail system and more than 1,100 miles of trails in the eastern half of the state.
The Black Hills trail system also encompasses off-trail riding in the 1.2-million acre forest.
