2009 Arctic Cat M1000 162, The Outdoor Toy StoreWe continue to find excuses to ride a M1000 Sno Pro. The torque monster motor happily plays in neck-high powder and when a M1000 is built by Aaron Kreps, it will scare the you-know-what out of any mountain in its way.
But, Kreps is not bred to burn the super-big chutes, he is a tree running, technical-riding bronc-buster. He is masterful in the trees, so, light and snappy are his demands from a mountain sled.
This M1000 was a Speedwerx-improved M1000 capable of cranking out 210 horses. It took advantage of V-Force reeds, a Speedwerx exhaust system and tunnel-dump exhaust silencer. Kreps designed his own clutching for this motor, to take full advantage of the motor's expanded and deep-torque power curve.
The TOTS-built M1000 received Z-Broz 41-inch A-arms. Between the arms were Exit front shocks. SLP Powder Pro skis kept the front-end positive. On the rear skid, the OEM shocks were traded for Exit shocks. These work oh-so-well. Kreps knows the standard M1000 seat was inept for riding (heavy and a massive sponge), so he fired it and hired a TOTS custom BOSS high-rise seat. Nice move.
To assure the motor stays away from under-hood heat saturation, TOTS added two cool air vents. A TOTS custom intake system rolled in cool, oxygen-rich air into the motor.
Dry weight for this M1000, according to TOTS, is 455 lbs. Before we took control of this sled, we watched Kreps hook up some amazing tree runs on a sickly mountain side that was insanely steep. He pulled cross-cut lines that would make any rider wish for his skill and talent. But, when asked, "How do you do it, Aaron?" He points to the M1000 and quickly claims the motor, its suspension and lightweight feel gives him the confidence he needs to "stick it in the trees."
An M1000 is the sled to have and with TOTS' engineering, the M1000 is fantastically wicked.
