We Cop Out AgainWhat we have described as a sampling of what Minnesota has to offer. But, there is a great deal more to Minnesota than just these places. There is also very good riding in the Alexandria area over on the Douglas Area Trail Association trails. Detroit Lakes is another terrific place to ride with miles of good trails and a network system that you'll enjoy. Southern Minnesota has a good series of trails too.
We have been told that northwestern Minnesota will have many more connecting trails this season due to additional monies being freed up by the state. So, try to get a very current map if you want to ride in the northwestern portion of the state. That is where the USA's first two snowmobile factories are located - Thief River Falls and Roseau. But more about riding there in future issues.
Minnesota's tourism group, while not as actively pro-snowmobiling as Wisconsin's, does as good job. It helps to have a governor who is a snowmobiler. Wisconsin does. Minnesota doesn't in spite of the fact that both Polaris and Arctco are major tax payers.
The tourism department has learned the value of snowmobile dollars. The St. Paul headquarters has a plethora of info about snowmobiling in the state. And what they don't have, the state's Department of Natural Resources does. We have been told that the DNR is updating its state trail map to include the new connector trails in the northwestern portion of Minnesota.
Check out the DNR publications and brochures. There is a lot to explore in Minnesota.
