midsize magic 2000 dodge durango slt 4x4

When deciding which 4x4 to buy for trailering all types of recreational vehicles around this year, we'll tell you to take a good look at Dodge's Durango SUV. The 2000 Durango SLT 4x4 comes with its Next Generation 4.7L Magnum® V8 engine as standard equipment, but is available with Dodge's super pounding 5.9L Magnum® V8 as an option.

The way we calculated the monthly payment for five years at eight percent interest, the 5.9L engine is only going to run about $12 per month more than the 4.7L standard engine. To us snowmobilers, the extra horsepower is worth it.
The mid-size Dodge Durango is a four-door sport utility that has optional seating for up to eight people. The Durango is available in both two- and four-wheel drive.

Sure, the Durango looks good with its sleek styling, but we're not that superficial. We look past the outside and go under the hood to determine its trailering merits. With our 5.9L engine, it's got 245 ponies at 4000 rpm and 335 ft.-pounds of torque at 3200 rpm. Plenty of power for getting your sled-laden trailer to the lodge this weekend. And, to make sure you can pack everything for your getaway, Dodge has incorporated an incredible 51.3 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rearmost seat. This will ensure all your helmets, gear and the whole gang can fit comfortably.

More inside information here, the Durango comes standard with less forceful Next Generation driver and front passenger air bags, air conditioning, four cargo tie down loops, rear defrost, 25 gallon fuel tank, tinted windows, power locks, remote keyless entry, tachometer, power mirrors, six-way power driver's seat, two power outlets (front and back), AM/FM cassette, power steering, full-size spare tire, automatic transmission and more. Additionally, we chose to add fog lights, leather interior and a roof rack with 150-pound capacity, because you can never have enough storage space on long trips with the buddies.

So, what can you pull with this bad boy sport utility vehicle? With the standard 3.55 axle ratio on the 5.9L, the Durango SLT is able to tow 5,650 lbs. of trailer and snowmobile. With the optional 3.92 axle ratio, (for around $40, we might add), our Durango is able to tow 7,350 pounds. That's a lot of trailer!

Overall, the benefits of driving the comfortable and stylish Durango are that it can tow just about anything you can put on a trailer and can seat you, your buddies and all your gear without a problem. The Durango is a functional sport utility vehicle with style- attracting buyers who want to be able to get around all winter, with or without trailer.
