T he S.E. Woods division of the Holden Company built the Mc Culloch snowmobile along about 1968 or 1969 under license from Fox Body Works of Janesville, Wisconsin. Woods Company was located in Newmarket, Ontario. The "Trailmaker" was a name given to the sled under the Mc Culloch umbrella but those sleds that were sold by Imperial Oil Company were known as "Sno-Trek."
This sled is an example of the fancy footwork by many in the industry in the early days. It was a pretty standard snowmobile for the times. The hood was nothing more than a sheet of formed aluminum with an automotive-type spotlight poking up through it for illumination. I can't take the brochure too seriously because of the many errors made. For instance the power plant is described as a JLO by Canadian Curtis Wright. There is no such engine and never has been. The JLO (pronounced as E-low) was built in Pinneberg, Germany and the Canadian Curtis Wright called the Koritsu-Noki factory in Japan home. CCW never was built in Canada. The CCW as used in the John Deere sled was called a "Kioritz." The engine actually used in the Mc Culloch was the L-297 JLO. The rest of the sled was nothing but conventional.
