Riding the hills and valleys around Mt. Katahdin, you'll find plenty of miles to travel that connect with the state's extensive trail system. The Katahdin Region was one of the first areas to cater to snowmobilers, so you will find local businesses and residents know how to make your winter stay an enjoyable one. You'll find some great accommodations and dining spots, equipment rentals, parking for your trailers and even guided tours, if you'd like one.

Mt. Katahdin is in Baxter State Park, a beautiful area that also features the Alpine Forest and 46 mountain peaks. The park restricts the use of snowmobiles to the perimeter road. There are trails surrounding the park that provide plenty of good riding along with some magnificent scenery.

Area snowmobile trails are kept in top riding condition all winter long. Trailside gas, lodging and meals are available all along the interconnected trail system.

Popular trail routes include the Katahdin Loop Trail and the Logan Pond Trail. Both follow the perimeter of gorgeous Baxter State Park.

Registration and regulation info is available from the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife at www.state.me.us/ifw/rv/index.htm.
