A team of University of Wisconsin-Madison mechanical engineers have received donations to build an electric snowmobile which could assist scientific research in Antarctica and Greenland.
The Silent BuckEV sled will compete in the 2008 Society of Automotive Engineering Zero-Emissions Electric Snowmobile Event, held on the Michigan Technological University campus in March. This is the Madison team's first time in the zero-emmissions event.
The competition has several categories, including weight, acceleration, sound tests, a distance race, maneuverability course, technical paper and cost analysis. Industry experts also will be driving and evaluating the snowmobiles.
