HISTORY OF CAIN'S QUEST
JACQUES CARTIER was a famous explorer who first came to North America in 1534. He anchored his ships near Blanc Sablon where wood and water were plentiful and where he first encountered natives who had traveled to hunt seals. After touching several points along the southern shore of Labrador such as Chateau, Greenish Harbour, Red Bay and Bradore, Cartier said that the land was “nothing but stones and rocks, frightful and rough … for in all the coasts of the north I did not see a cartload of earth. I really believe this is the land that god gave to Cain.” From this story and the vision of staging the toughest Canadian endurance race, Cain’s Quest was born. This name represents the adventure the race promises to be and captures the essence of the land that hosts it.
