Tom Jenson of Rigby, Idaho, is the winner of a daylong ride as an official sled evaluator with AmSnow's Mountain Test Staff during its January evaluation sessions.
Jenson won the test ride during the 2005 Rigby Snowmobile Expo and Swap Meet. In addition, Jenson will be outfitted for the ride in a new snowmobile suit (including boots and gloves) of his choosing from Klim. He also won a new helmet from Rexburg Motor Sports (RMS).
A sales representative for Yellowstone Gloves, Jenson currently rides an '02 Polaris 800 Edge RMK and averages 2,000 miles a winter, strictly in the mountains. He began riding in 1972 with a Ski-Doo TNT, but switched to Polaris in 1981.
To win the prize Jenson guessed the weight of the Big Four's latest mountain sleds which were suspended from a scale. Each sled had the same amount of fuel, two quarts of oil, one spare belt, two spare spark plugs and an 8-inch hoagie and a Gatorade bottle stuffed in the rear seat compartment. Three of the four sleds were provided by RMS, while Mountain Magic Sports of Preston, Idaho, provided the Arctic Cat.
Four finalists then guessed the weight of a Fabcraft hand-built sled to determine the winner.
For the record, the Cat M7 LE weighed the least at 496 pounds, followed by the Ski-Doo Summit 800 HMX H.O. 151 at 527. Next up were the Polaris IQ RMK 151 at 570 pounds and the Yamaha RS Vector Mountain at 614 pounds.
Fabcraft's tricked out sled was a svelte 433 pounds.
Special thanks to RMS, Broulim's Supermarket, the Rigby Snowmobile Expo and Swap Meet staff, plus Klim.
