ishof honors six inductees

This year the International Snowmobile Hall of Fame (ISHOF) will induct six special award recipients on Feb. 27-28 during their weekend events. Don Lumley of Garson, Ontario, will be inducted as a Volunteer and Club Organizer for his work co-founding a snowmobile club, snowmobile patrol unit, trail program association, regional snowmobile club organization and the Canadian Snowmobile Hall of Fame. He has also raised more than $16 million for snowmobiling in Canada.
Bob Persson of Froson, Sweden, will be inducted as a Snowmobile Promoter. Persson has been a test rider for Harley Davidson, a snowmobile racer, a snowmobile sales representative, a snowmobile article writer and co-founder of a snowmobile club. He introduced the snowmobile to many regions of Europe and has promoted the brands of Aktiv, Ski-Doo, Arctic Cat and Polaris.
ISHOF and Arctic Cat will recognize Joe Tonso of Craig, Colorado, as the 2004 International Groomer Operator of the Year. Tonso has served as grooming chairman for 16 years, he developed Colorado's trail funding formula and he established a training program for trail groomers.
Retired Minnesota Senator Robert Lessard will receive the Allan Hetteen Memorial Award of Merit from ISHOF, AmSnow Online and American Snowmobiler magazine. Lessard has been and continues to be a big supporter of Minnesota's snowmobile program and has continually dealt with the needs and wants of his constituents.
Al and Jean Seagren of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, will receive the International Snowmobile Hall of Fame Safety Award of Merit for their participation and dedication for more than 30 years. As safety instructors they have taught more than 1,700 youth and 50 adults.
